Meet Our Speakers

Black Tie Dinner Dance

After a day of lectures, what better way to unwind and socialise with your colleagues than at the Shoalhaven Medical Association’s Black Tie Dinner Dance.

The venue, the Nowra Golf Club, offers stunning views across the Shoalhaven River as the suns sets and dancing will be to the popular Stewart Harrison Band. And the Trivia Maestro will be back with another challenging and highly entertaining assortment of questions – you may be amazed at some of the answers!

The Dinner is a wonderful opportunity for Shoalhaven’s medical fraternity to meet in a convivial atmosphere – renew acquaintances and meet new faces. We are hoping that the Registrars will accept our invitation to attend, with their partners, as guests of the Shoalhaven Medical Association.

Tribute to the late Dr Bill Ryan OAM

In November last year the Shoalhaven medical fraternity was saddened by the death of one of the patriarchs of Medicine in the Shoalhaven – Dr Bill Ryan OAM.

Bill (with the support of his wife Pat) founded the SMA approximately 50 years ago and had a significant impact on medical progress in the area with organised educational weekends as well as regular monthly meetings at the Rouse House and timely recruiting drives for specialist services in the area.

Bill pushed to have clinicians from the Shoalhaven listened to in the health planning and delivery process and attended over a decade of board meetings. He also spent time as Mayor of the Shoalhaven and was a highly respected member and President of the World Police Medical Officers Association.

Bill’s funeral service in St Michaels Church, where he was christened in 1930, was a fitting tribute with a powerful eulogy delivered by sons Mark and Frank. The service was attended by many of those that Bill had encouraged to pursue Shoalhaven careers. Our sympathies and ongoing thoughts are with Pat and all the Ryan family with this loss.

To honour Bill’s contribution to Shoalhaven Medicine it is proposed to have the first session of the SMA educational meetings to be named: Dr Bill Ryan Lecture Session ongoing.
