About the SMA

The Shoalhaven Medical Association has been in existence for over fifty years. Initially established to provide updates for local practitioners with in-home talks from invited speakers, it has grown.

We now host bi-annual Conferences for all the local Medical Community, in March and October. Attendees usually exceed one hundred, and the opportunity to engage face-to-face with peers and colleagues in an educational environment is considered invaluable. Conference feedback has been very positive, with suggestions for future topics actioned by the SMA Committee. Membership is not restricted to certain craft groups, with specialists and general practitioners included.

Our members and partners also enjoy the social activities of the SMA (non-members pay for dinner, all lectures are free for the medical community) with the March Conference being followed by a Black-Tie Dinner/Dance – an epicurean delight. A family orientated dinner follows the October Conference with entertainment for the children. Photo evidence can be seen in our gallery. From June 2021, Conference recordings (including October 2020 and March 2021) will be accessible from a website link for members.

SMA Membership includes the cost of these activities with partner included. At $300 per annum, there is much value. This may be deductible.

COVID-19 has had an impact, with a forced change from face-to-face to a Zoom-format meeting. With subsequent relaxation, this is now returning to face-to-face, with some Zoom potential. Membership in general has strongly supported the move back to face-to-face. The SMA also prides itself on a collegial approach for all the Shoalhaven Medical Community, and has been involved in supporting local initiatives.
